The 2010 AEU Religious Education Fall Conference and Family Weekend - 2010-08-30 09:48:26

The annual conference of the AEU Religious Education Program will take place at the Stony Point Conference Center, Stony Point, NY.

The theme of the conference is "How We Help." The opening statement of the brochure reads (you can download the brochure from the link below):

"Act so as to bring out the best in others and thereby ourselves." -- Implicit in this statement is a call to service. As Ethical Humanists we choose to help others. How do we do this in a way that is empowering and productive for those in need? This weekend offers a chance for children, parents, Sunday School teachers, religious education directors, and others to share what matters most to us, and how we choose to help. Fabulous Ethical Action projects are going on across the country. Whether we are responding to a natural disaster, providing ongoing support to a community, raising money for causes that we believe in, or beautifying the neighborhood, we all use our time and energy to help others because we think it is the right thing to do. This weekend we will take time to listen and learn from each other, and inspire each other. Welcome!

AEU's Growth and Development Workshop "INCORPORATING NEW MEMBERS" - 2010-08-23 13:24:11

Where: The Ethical Society of St. Louis
9001 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 314-991-0955
When: Saturday, October 2, 2010
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Led by the Alban Institute's Senior Consultant and author, Alice Mann shares her expertise in helping congregations develop ways to incorporate new members.

Attracting and retaining new members doesn’t happen by accident or through the latest gimmick. It happens because people within a Society have a passionate commitment to:

• Offer to others something that has been of great value in their own life; and
• Practice forms of hospitality and follow-though that enables an “outsider” to become an “insider.”
• Better understand key steps in the process of member incorporation
• Embrace a new look at what membership means to our Societies
• Learn how to invite, greet, orient, incorporate and bring meaningful avenues of involvement to new and existing members
• Gain insight from other Ethical Members about what works most effectively for their Ethical Societies in terms of member recruitment and retention
• Identify strategies and resources which have proven effective for incorporating new members while growing and developing our existing Societal Membership base.

Alice’s programs are lively and interactive. As Alban Institute’s Senior Consultant, she comes with a wealth of knowledge from working within a broad cross section of the religious denominations in diverse settings across the United States.

We encourage Societies to send a team of at least 5 people. Morning refreshments and a light lunch will be served.

The AEU has budgeted workshops like this one to recover most costs from those participating, rather than from Society apportionments. We request that each individual or Society contribute $50 per participant. To register, call the AEU office at 212-873-6500 or click on the link below to bring you directly to the registration materials.
